In 2021 Inoplas committed to achieve Net Zero by 2050 and a 50% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030. We employed FNZ to benchmark our carbon footprint and established a baseline of 99 tonnes of CO2 being produced from our processes of which 85% was from our electricity usage. Since then we have installed a new roof, a huge 400 solar panel array, converted most of the building to LED lighting with PIR sensors where feasible, invested in Power Factor correction capacitors to better manage the consumption of our equipment and moved 2/3 or our company vehicles to be all electric or hybrid, improved our glass, metal, plastic and paper recycling processes, had more trees planted on our site (thanks to our friends at The Old Thatch), instituted composting for vegetable waste, replaced our compressors and a big old chiller with 21st century energy efficient technologies and had a chunk of the factory’s cavity walls insulated with foam – and anything else we can think of.
In the year to Feb 24 we used 168mw of electricity compared with 368mw in the year to Feb 22 – a reduction of well over 50% and by February 2024 we produced only 4 tonnes of CO2. Since our install of solar PV we have therefore saved nearly 38 tonnes of CO2 from going to atmosphere: the equivalent of planting well over 2,000 trees – on top of the 12 we actually planted.
Ethics, including our responsibility to the community and environment is one of our 7 core Values – we believe that the efforts of #teaminoplas over the past two years mean we have achieved our first target of 50% emissions reductions SIX years early.
